Argument Essays #1 Just be nice

This essay talked about learning manners in school, and how people treat one another. I thought the topic of this essay was clear, but was not sure if the author was on one side or the other. He has a great arguable position, but lack of defining which side he is on. He gives a lot of good background information of how manners were taught to him in school around the sixties. He uses many examples to support his reasons, using court cases, his own history and references to magazines. His support of his reasons definatley convinced me that he researched the topic in depth. The values in this essay are one everyone should appreciate because no one likes being treated rudely. Since I'm not sure what side of the argument he was on it was hard to see if he considered the other positions. The author's main goal is to get everyone to treat each other with respect, and explain the essence of civility.
